Summer of Fun-Week 1

We have had a fun and busy week for our first official week of summer! Monday was Memorial Day ( I already wrote about that). Monday night, Adam got to have a sleepover with Aunt Katy for his birthday. On Tuesday, she took Adam to see a movie and they had fun hanging out together. Adam also had his well check with Dr. Cathy on Tuesday. She declared him a perfectly healthy 7 year old boy! Tessa and Gwen had a boring day at home with Mommy. I had chores to catch up on:)
Wednesday we ran some errands and got the kids signed up for the summer reading program at the Library. (We are doing our own little version at home too.) Adam has already read 4 chapter books this week.
Wednesday we had also had a very special opportunity. We helped welcome home an American hero. A couple of weeks ago, Cody Towse, an Army Medic serving in Afghanistan, was killed by a bomb explosion. He and his family are from Elk Ridge, Utah, a small town south of Spanish Fork. His body arrived at the Provo airport on Wednesday, and thousands of people lined the streets from Provo to Elk Ridge to pay their respects to this brave young man. We were a few of those thousands. The kids were really good as we waited for 2 hours for the procession to make it's way down Spanish Fork Main Street. I was amazed at how many people were there. It was a moment I will never forget and I hope that my kids understood a little bit of how special that afternoon was for us. It was amazing and heartbreaking all at the same time. No one made a sound as Cody's body drove by. But the spirit was so strong and for a minute we all felt like one giant family, mourning a brother. Truly an amazing moment!

This week, Adam and Tessa got to work on their summer journals.

Adam is doing great with his baseball games! We are cheering him on every Tuesday and Thursday nights. More on those soon...
This week brought fun bike rides to the river and since we had some awesome rainstorms, we had some cool bugs to study.
Friday brought play dates and birthday parties! There is always something going on!
Saturday, we got to attend a blessing and a baptism! Cute Ellie was baptized and adorable August was blessed. It was a fun day with family and we had fun driving up to our old neck of the woods.
Gwen was more tolerant than usual and actually let other people hold her. She even let Great Grandma Nielson have a turn.
 Tessa loved Ellie's dress!
All the cousin's that were there from both sides of the family.
Tessa, Ellie, Zeke, Adam, and Gwen
One of our favorite families!
It was a great week to start our summer!

Busted!!

After church last Sunday, we were all upstairs changing our clothes when I realized Gwen had not followed me. I went back downstairs to see where she was, and I found her in the fridge, shoving handfuls of Adam's leftover cake in her mouth. Being the good mom that I am, I grabbed the camera and let her have her fun. She loved it!

Memorial Day 2013

We had a nice Memorial Day and were happy to have Daddy home with us! We got lots of yard work done and Bampa helped Daddy plant some trees in our backyard!
We went to the Springville cemetery to show the kids where their Great Grandpa Nielson is buried and Eric told the kids some things he remembers about his Grandpa.

Eric and Adam at Uncle Richard's grave.
Both of these cute boys are named after Richard who died when he was 11. We have been getting a lot of comments lately on how much Adam is looking like Richard.
We spent the evening at Ma and Pa's house, having a yummy barbecue and fun water fights. Gwen did her best to stay as far away from Uncle Danny as she could get!
It was a great day to officially kick off our summer!

Adam Turns 7!

Adam turned 7 years old yesterday. Where does the time go? I can't believe how fast the last 7 years have gone by. Adam is such a good little boy!. He is smart and kind and he loves to learn! He couldn't decided on what kind of birthday party to have this year, so he decided to do an "All About Me" birthday party, highlighting all of his favorite things. We had the family over last Saturday to celebrate since Daddy had school on his actual birthday. Adam was so grateful to everyone who came. He said he had an awesome party!

Adam's favorite things include, reading (his favorite books are the Magic Tree House Series, his Children's Encyclopedia, and Hot Rod Hamster), the movie, Cars 2, racing cars, and Teddy Elephant.
A few more favorites include sports, the Jazz, legos, and skyscrapers.
We got an awesome basketball cake from Costco this year!

He got an awesome sports blanket from Aunt Dee!
A globe from Ma and Pa
Some fun new games from Mamma and Bampa

 Legos from Matt and Gillian
Books from Mommy and Daddy and Ma and Pa

And, what he says is the best present ever-a bean bag chair for reading!

He started out his birthday morning with some yummy blueberry french toast. 2 of his favorites combined!
Adam and Mommy spent about an hour in the morning playing basketball and then he and Tessa hit the backyard for some water fun!

While they warmed up and ate lunch, we watched his favorite movie, Cars 2.
When Daddy got home from school, Adam got to open a few more presents.
 A new watch!

 (Another) Jazz wristband!
 Wreck it Ralph video game!
 Season 1 of Animaniacs!
A basketball book!
He chose Iggy's for his special birthday dinner out with Mom and Dad. He got to watch the Grizzlies vs the Spurs in the NBA playoff game. His eyes hardly left the screen.

 Enjoying his birthday treat!

Love this boy so much! We are so proud of the good boy that he is! Happy, Happy birthday to our big 7 year old!
