Dress Up

I guess being a dragon and a pirate in cowboy boots is more fun than being the captured princess. Tessa loves playing the part of the Dragon and she makes one convincing pirate-cowboy boots and all!

The dragons at our house love to practice the alphabet!

Family Home Evening

Family Home Evening is something I am really trying to work on with the little ones. I just feel like what we have been doing isn't really working and I need some fresh ideas and activities. Last night was awesome! In preparation for General Conference this weekend we had a lesson about "Watchmen on the Tower". We talked about different towers (like lighthouses, which Adam is fascinated by) and the importance of the men who work there. We talked about King Benjamin and his tower and then we talked about our latter-day "watchmen". I had Adam build this tower and then place the General Authorities on it.
Then we built our own towers out of toothpicks and marshmallows

This was Tessa's contribution to our towers
Adam really did well with the lesson and he got something out of it because he keeps asking me if Conference is tomorrow. I am trying to teach him a little something about each of the GA's during the week so by the time Conference rolls around he will know these amazing men. I think we are our way for some productive family home evenings...finally!

"Mommy School"

Last week I started "preschool" with Adam. We had a fun week and he calls it "Mommy School", which I love. We will be working on letters, numbers, colors and shapes. He already knows these so I added other things that he is interested in right now, such as nursery rhymes and geography. We will have monthly themes and each week we will focus on something within that particular theme. September was "All About Me". Last week we talked about his favorite things, and his family. This week we move on to our bodies, 5 senses and being healthy (which he is totally into right now).
Our first day of "Mommy School"
Drawing a picture of himself
Making an alligator out of an A

He made a "favorite things" collage

He went through the house and found things that were circles
This is our school board...probably too much for a silly preschool, but I had fun putting it together. Liberty Academy is what we called my "school" when I was growing up, so I thought it would be fun to use the same name for our school. Adam was very disappointed that we didn't do school work over the weekend. I am glad he is having so much fun with it! I know I am!

Park Day

We are trying to enjoy the last few days of summer. Today we walked to the park and had a fun morning playing. The swings are a favorite! Adam calls them "spoon swings"...I guess he thinks they are shaped like spoons.

Labor Day Hike

For over a year now Eric and I have been wanting to hike to the Y in Provo. We have planned on going several times, but something always comes up. The last time we planned to go was our anniversary weekend, but when I came home the night before our hike with a sprained ankle, we had to put it off again. With my ankle finally feeling better and a morning free, we finally made it up the mountain. I thought I was in fairly good shape....today proved otherwise. That is a hard hike!! Our only goal, besides getting to the Y, was to get there before the parents who were carrying their kids up the mountain.
Our view at the beginning of the hike
I made it!
Isn't he cute?!
The view of the valley from the Y

It was hard, but fun and I am glad we finally did it!! Maybe next time I will be one of those parents carrying a kid up the mountain. I can dream, right?

Take Me Out To The Ball Game!

Both kids came down with horrible colds this week! Thursday we had tickets to go see the Orem Owlz play at UVU. Adam LOVES baseball and was so excited to go. He didn't care that he couldn't breathe, he just wanted to go to the game. I let Eric take him for a couple of hours and Tessa and I stayed home. Eric said Adam loved everything about it! He can't wait for next season.

He was so excited to get a hot dog...

You can tell by his poor face and eyes that he doesn't feel good, but he hasn't stopped talking about it. I think we have a future Dodger on our hands! He even had to change into his baseball shirt before they left.

Thanksgiving Point

Yesterday we had a fun afternoon at Thanksgiving Point. In August they do $2 Tuesdays and we took advantage of it! Eric took a couple hours off of work and we took the kids to the Dinosaur Museum and the Children's Garden. We loved spending an entire afternoon together!
